This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to operate complex, independent gas turbine systems used in power generation, compression, and similar industrial applications. It includes the operation of specialised startup and shutdown procedures, control panels, and vibration monitoring equipment. The unit applies to autonomous operators who possess a strong understanding of both process and equipment operations, working either independently or in coordination with control-room personnel. In larger and more complex facilities, operators may work as part of a team during critical operational activities. The role requires effective communication with shift personnel and adherence to all relevant Australian legislation, industry standards, licensing requirements, and codes of practice.
Receive and deliver shift handovers, coordinate work requirements with personnel, identify and report hazards, review maintenance activities, verify system status, perform routine inspections and documentation, and adjust the gas turbine system in accordance with approved operating parameters.
